DEAR DELEGATES,
I am excited to welcome you to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) of ILMUNC! My name is Ivan Boyko, and as the moderator I look forward to guiding you through engaging and impactful discussions that explore various aspects of environmental justice.
Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya UNEP focuses on topics relating to all aspects of the environment and our relationship to it. Mitigating the impact humans have on their effort environment is a complex challenge that relies on the effective functioning of both international and regional organizations. Armed conflicts have a massive impact on local ecosystems and contribute greatly to C02 emissions despite being often ignored. Meanwhile, due to human activities air quality and pollution have become a great concern to everyone on earth. I look forward to hearing your ideas on how to best regulate and address such activities.
A little bit about me, I am a Freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences doing a double major in International Relations and Environmental Science. I am a native to Philadelphia, and went to Central High School where I participated in my high school’s Model UN club. This will be my first conference that I have helped to plan with ILMUNC and hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of ILMUNC, I am a member of INTERCOL, Penns traveling model UN team, and am a writer for Penn’s premier arts and culture magazine called 34th Street.
Tova and I are all looking forward to working with you in the UNEP committee. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee.
