Welcome to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) for ILMUNC XLI! Over the next four days, this committee will delve into two significant issues shaping the global economic landscape: the future of work in the age of automation and AI, and the regulation of cryptocurrencies. Delegates will examine how emerging technologies are transforming industries and labor markets, exploring strategies to mitigate the economic disruptions caused by automation while ensuring inclusive growth and workforce adaptation. Additionally, the committee will debate the complexities of cryptocurrency regulation, focusing on its implications for global financial stability. Through rigorous discussion and innovative policymaking, delegates will navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving economic world, seeking to build a resilient and equitable financial future.
Dear Delegates,
I am excited to welcome you to the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) of ILMUNC! My name is Alan Raskin, and as the chair I look forward to guiding you through a debate surrounding globally-pressing economic issues. I’m excited to see the creative solutions you’ll bring to the table.
Often referred to as the “Second Committee” of the United Nations General Assembly, ECOFIN is responsible for addressing topics related to international finance, global economies, and economic inequalities. Maintaining the health of economic systems worldwide is crucial to promoting high standards of living and sustainable development. This committee is also concerned with taxation and trade policies and how they can influence international markets. It is necessary to balance prosperous trade policies with economic sovereignty, and I look forward to seeing how your ideas adhere to this balance.
A little bit about me, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying mathematical economics and computer science. I’m from Rochester, NY, so you know I love hiking and camping. This is my first conference with ILMUNC, but I’m on Penn’s competitive Model UN team and staffed for our college MUN conference. Outside of Model UN, you can find me with my fraternity, at my IT job, or exploring Philly’s incredible restaurant scene. For anyone with the time, The Continental Midtown is a must-try.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions regarding the committee. Mariam, Naija, and I are so excited to start working with you in ECOFIN and see what you all prepare!

Dear Delegates,
I am incredibly excited to welcome you to the Economic and Financial Committee (ECOFIN) of ILMUNC! My name is Naija Agarwal and as co-chair of ECOFIN, I am looking forward to being part of the team leading conducive and engaging discussions about critical human, social, and economic issues facing the world today.
As the second committee of the United Nations General Assembly, ECOFIN centers around issues focusing on global financial topics and economic challenges. The committee deals with questions about global finances and economic development across the world, aiming to address economic inequity and other emerging concerns in the economic sphere. Considering the growing importance of these topics in modern settings, I anticipate getting to hear your ideas on how to overcome these issues at ILMUNC.
To introduce myself a bit more, I am a Sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, planning to major in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics on a pre-law track. I am from Secaucus, New Jersey! I never participated in Model UN in high school but I found a passion for dialogue and engaging conversations through the four years I was a part of the Junior State of America (JSA). This is my first conference with ILMUN and I hope that I can be a part of making it an unforgettable experience for all of you! Outside of my interests in law and politics, I work with a startup called The Founder Series, write for the Daily Pennsylvanian, and am a part of the Penn Glee Club! I love listening to music and I’m always up for trying something new!
Alan, Mariam, and I cannot wait to work with you in the ECOFIN committee. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
