Welcome to the General Assemblies!

The General Assembly is the primary policy-making organ of the United Nations and plays a pivotal role in the representation of global nation-states in various critical matters of world politics. These nation-states work effortlessly via cooperation and diplomacy to construct resolutions detailing solutions to pertinent global issues, while also tending to their administrative responsibilities, which include overseeing the United Nations budget, appointing members to the Security Council, and selecting the Secretary-General.

Dear Delegates,

I'm thrilled to have you join us for the 41st Ivy League Model United Nations Conference. My name is Jade Stein, and as the Under-Secretary General of General Assemblies, I'm here to ensure you have an enriching and memorable experience. The team and I have been tirelessly working to make this year's conference extraordinary, and we're excited about the discussions and innovative solutions that will emerge.

A bit about me - I'm a sophomore majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, with roots in Miami, Florida. Beyond my engagement with ILMUNC, I'm deeply involved with Tamid, a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and an enthusiast for exploring diverse cultural experiences, particularly through dining out and discovering new coffee spots. My weekends are often spent in the pursuit of the next great meal or the perfect cup of coffee, when I'm not traveling or immersed in Model United Nations activities.

This conference is a platform for you to engage in meaningful dialogue, collaborate across diverse perspectives, and devise solutions for the world's urgent issues. Whether this is your first Model UN conference or you're a seasoned participant, the challenges and learning opportunities presented here are bound to enhance your skills and enrich your perspectives.

In my capacity, I look forward to facilitating the general assembly committees, where you'll delve into specific global issues with depth and sophistication. These sessions are designed to challenge your analytical skills and broaden your understanding, providing a unique opportunity for comprehensive exploration.

As we kick off this weekend, I encourage you to embrace the experience with an open mind and a dedication to making the most of this opportunity. The world faces unparalleled challenges, and your innovative ideas are key to driving positive change. But amidst the hard work, remember to enjoy the journey—make lasting memories, forge new friendships, and take in everything this conference has to offer.

The Secretariat and I are ecstatic to see you in action at ILMUNC this year. Your passion and participation are what make this conference a premier event in the Model United Nations community. I'm eager to celebrate your achievements and the impactful solutions you'll contribute to this weekend.

Regards,
Jade Stein

Dear Delegates,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 41st annual Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! My name is Kyle Fukumoto, and I am honored to serve as an Under-Secretary General of General Assemblies. This year’s Secretariat and I have dedicated immense time and effort into making this conference the best it can be, and I am beyond excited to witness the meaningful discussions and creative resolutions that will take place this weekend.

A little bit about myself – I’m a current sophomore studying Economics and Ancient History. I’m from a small beach town just outside of Los Angeles called Manhattan Beach.. Outside of participating in ILMUNC, I am an Energy Analyst in the Wharton Investment and Trading Group, a Long/Short Equities Analyst in the Wharton Hedge Fund Club, and a part of Penn Club XCTF. I also love to travel, read, and spend as much time outdoors as I can.

Over the course of the next few days, you will have the opportunity to engage in spirited debate, collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds, and develop innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing challenges. Whether you are a seasoned delegate or a first-time participant, I am confident that this experience will challenge you in new and exciting ways and leave you with valuable skills and friendships that will last a lifetime.

As an Under-Secretary General of General Assemblies, I am excited to have the opportunity to oversee the many dynamic and engaging committees that will be taking place at this conference. These committees offer a unique and invaluable experience to delegates, as they allow for a deeper dive into specific topics and areas of interest. Each specialized committee offers a unique perspective and set of challenges that will put your skills to the test and allow for a more nuanced exploration of critical global issues.

As you prepare to embark on this exciting journey, I encourage you to approach this conference with an open mind and a commitment to excellence. Our world is facing unprecedented challenges, and your unique perspectives and ideas will be crucial in helping us find innovative solutions and chart a course towards a better future. And, I hope you all have fun! Not only is this conference an opportunity to engage in meaningful debate and resolution, but make memories I hope you can look back on and cherish.

Again, on behalf of all of Secretariat, we are so excited for you to attend ILMUNC this year. It is the spirited and engaged delegates such as yourself that make ILMUNC one of the premier Model United Nations conferences across the country, and I look forward to seeing and celebrating all that you accomplish this weekend.

Best regards,
Kyle

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the 41st Ivy League Model United Nations Conference! My name is Matthew Barotz, and as an Under-Secretary-General of General Assemblies, I am so excited to watch you all thrive during a weekend of engaging and lively debate. The entire secretariat has put in months of hard work, planning, and dedication to ensure this conference will provide an enriching experience that you all can carry with you for years to come.

A quick introduction about me: I am a sophomore studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics with minors in Sustainability and Data Analytics. I grew up in Scarsdale, NY, where I led my high school’s Model UN club and even attended ILMUNC my senior year. In my free time, I love to get outside, whether it’s hiking, rock climbing, or training for the Philadelphia Half Marathon in the fall. I am also a big foodie—feel free to come up to me during conference to ask me for the best restaurant recommendations in Philly!

As a seasoned delegate myself, I understand the feelings that come with attending a conference as large as this one. Yes, there is excitement and anticipation, but there can also be fear or anxiety, especially for first-time delegates. Nonetheless, I want to remind everyone that you will get out of this conference what you put into it. The simulations we crafted for your committees will require fresh perspectives and new ideas to solve, so try to speak up during moderated caucuses or in your blocs—no idea is too small.

Most of all, I want to stress ILMUNC’s values of elevating discussion past a simple back-and-forth of ideas. Approach your committee with an open and accepting mindset. The issues you’ll deliberate are real and impact countless lives, and in our ever-polarized world, we rely on inclusive and collaborative thinkers like you to drive forward innovative solutions. I hope that you all leave this weekend having overcome some challenges to your ideas, coming to universally equitable agreements in the end (and making a few friends along the way).

On behalf of the entire ILMUNC secretariat, we are so ecstatic to welcome your enthusiasm and intellect to our conference and to celebrate your accomplishments at the end of the weekend. We are looking forward to seeing you all in January!

Best,
Matthew Barotz
