Welcome to ILMUNC India!

Dear delegates,

It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I welcome you to the first iteration of ILMUNC India, hosted at Chitkara University in Chandigarh from August 8 to August 10, 2025.

Our mission at ILMUNC is to create transformative Model UN experiences. We bring together delegates from all over the world at our yearly flagship conference in Philadelphia and at international conferences in Vietnam, China, and Peru. We foster an environment where each delegate can engage in honest, stimulating debate, increase their awareness and understanding of global issues, and most importantly, cultivate connections that will last a lifetime.

We are honored to have been given the opportunity to do what we do best in an entirely new country and community. First and foremost, thank you to our partners at Big Red Education. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you for allowing us to embark on this journey together. And thank you as well to the 50-odd members of our Secretariat who have worked tirelessly over the past year to prepare for this conference and all the others. I am forever grateful to call you all some of my closest friends.

I cannot help but wonder what it must have been like to attend and run the first iteration of ILMUNC in 1984. Nobody then could have known that their work would spawn a 41-year legacy that allowed us all to be here today. This conference, like that one, is also the beginning of a new chapter in ILMUNC’s history. As this conference approaches, I encourage you all to reflect on its importance and potential. The debates you have, the friendships you foster, the lessons and skills you learn will lay the foundation for future iterations of ILMUNC India and future conferences around the world. Together, we can build the next forty years of ILMUNC.

To do so, though, we must all keep central the values that are most essential to Model UN: diplomacy, kindness, and friendly competition. As we come together to debate the issues that matter most, I want to emphasize that this conference is about more than just winning awards or passing resolutions. It is about working together, gaining a deeper understanding of each other, expanding your circle of empathy, and creating lasting change. It is about building each other up and helping each other to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become the next generation of leaders, as I know you will.

I encourage you to read through our website over the coming months for more information on registration, our committees, and our Secretariat. On behalf of the entire ILMUNC India Secretariat, I cannot wait to see all of you in Chandigarh in August!

Sincerely,
Thomas Urey
Secretary-General, ILMUNC India, 1st Iteration
