Disarmament and International Security Committee
Approximately 110 Delegations - Double Delegate
Topic A: The Dark Web and Cyber Warfare
Topic B: Drone Proliferation
Welcome to the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) for ILMUNC XLI! Throughout the next four days, delegates will engage in critical discussions on two pressing security concerns: the dark web and cyber warfare, and the proliferation of drones. As cyber threats evolve, the dark web has become a breeding ground for illicit activities and a new front for cyber warfare, posing challenges to international peace and security. Delegates will explore strategies to combat these digital threats while balancing the need for privacy and freedom online. Additionally, the committee will address the rapid proliferation of drone technology, debating how to regulate its use in both military and civilian contexts to prevent escalation and ensure global safety. Together, delegates will work towards solutions that strengthen international security in the digital age and beyond.
Dear Delegates,
I am excited to welcome you to the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) of ILMUNC! My name is Jonathan Abraham, and as the moderator I look forward to guiding you through engaging and impactful discussions that explore various aspects of international peace and security.
Often referred to as the “First Committee” of the United Nations General Assembly, DISEC focuses on topics relating to disarmament and international security. Maintaining global peace and security is a collective effort that relies on the effective functioning of both international and regional organizations. Regional organizations play a crucial role in maintaining peace and security within their respective regions, as they are closer to the issues facing the member states. Aerial policing has also become increasingly prevalent in modern conflicts, and I look forward to hearing your ideas on how to best regulate and address such activities.
A little bit about me, I am a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Philosophy, Politics, & Economics. I’m from Ann Arbor, MI, and went to Detroit Country Day School. I have a strong interest in worldly politics and am excited to have this experience. This will be my first conference that I have helped to plan with ILMUNC and hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of ILMUNC, I am involved in Black Wharton Consulting and am involved in Penn Undergraduate Law Journal on campus. I love running and hanging with friends, and try to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible!
Anish Nadella and I are all looking forward to working with you in the DISEC committee. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee.
