United Nations Office on Outer Space Affairs
Approximately 70 Delegations - Double Delegate
Topic A: Preventing an Arms Race in Space
Topic B: Management and Mitigation of Space Debris
OOSA is where the future of space exploration comes to life. In this committee, you'll be tackling some of the most exciting and challenging issues facing humanity, from managing space debris to developing laws that govern space activities. You’ll also dive into the ethical questions around private companies heading to space. If you’ve ever wondered what it takes to ensure space remains a peaceful frontier for all, this is your chance to shape policies that will govern space exploration for generations to come.
Dear Delegates,
I am excited to welcome you to the Office on Outer Space Affairs of ILMUNC! My name is Priya Patel and as your Co-Chair, I look forward to guiding you through engaging and impactful discussions that explore various aspects of international peace and security in outer space.
Often referred to as a pivotal entity in the United Nations, the Office on Outer Space Affairs focuses on topics relating to the peaceful use and exploration of outer space. Maintaining global peace and security in outer space is a collective effort that relies on the effective functioning of both international and regional organizations. Regional organizations play a crucial role in maintaining peace and security within their respective regions, as they are closer to the issues facing the member states. Regulation of space activities has become increasingly important in modern times, and I look forward to hearing your ideas on how to best address and manage such activities.
A little bit about me, I am a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences studying Neuroscience with a minor in Healthcare Management from Wharton. I’m from New Jersey, and went to John P. Stevens High School where I competed in my high school’s Model UN club as Director General and met some of my closest friends. This will be my second conference that I have helped to plan with ILMUNC and hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of ILMUNC, I perform on Naach (an all-girl South Asian dance team), research neurodegenerative diseases, and am involved in Intercol, Penn’s competitive Model UN team.
Madeline, Aditi, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the Office on Outer Space Affairs. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee, college in general, or have any cute pictures of your pets that you’d love to share!

Dear Delegates,
I am excited to welcome you to the Office on Outer Space Affairs (OOSA) Committee of ILMUNC XLI! My name is Madeline, and as your Chair I look forward to guiding you through engaging discussions that explore nuanced aspects of international peace and security.
OOSA is an office of the United Nations Secretariat that works to promote international cooperation in the peaceful use and exploration of outer space, and in the utilisation of space science and technology for sustainable economic and social development. In particular, OOSA’s emphasis on empowering developing countries to access and leverage the benefits of space science and technology requires deliberate consideration of each state’s historical context and institutional landscape. I look forward to hearing your ideas on how best to accommodate these nuances when addressing sustainable development and space regulations.
A bit about me – I am a sophomore in the Huntsman Program at Penn studying Economics and International Studies with a target in French. I’m originally from Dallas, Texas, and on-campus am a member of Intercol, Penn's competitive Model United Nations team. This will be my first conference serving as a Senior Staffer for ILMUNC, and I hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience. Outside of Model UN, I am also involved in the Wharton Investing and Trading Group, Penn Undergraduate Law Journal, and Penn Appétit. I enjoy reading, exploring local food scenes, and spending time outdoors.
Priya, Aditi, and I are looking forward to working with you in the OOSC committee at this year’s conference. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Dear Delegates,
Welcome to ILMUNC XLI! My name is Aditi Singh and I am really looking forward to chairing the OOSA Committee this year. Our topics are Preventing an Arms Race in Space and Management Mitigation of Space Debris.
The modern-day world is more interconnected than ever before; that’s one of the reasons why conflict anywhere is a problem everywhere. Given that, we have centered the topics of this committee that will force you to evaluate the impacts not just in your respective countries but its implications abroad too. Keep all foreign wars, potential economic recessions, and pressing international conflicts in mind while discussing these issues and coming up with solutions during committee; we really look forward to hearing all of your ideas during the conference!
Now a little bit about me. I am a senior in Wharton from Chicago, Illinois studying finance and business analytics. I have competed in MUN throughout high school and absolutely loved the experience and it turned out to be one of the reasons why she decided to continue the club in college. Apart from MUN, I am also involved on the Penn Mock Trial team and various Wharton Investment clubs in the real estate and technology, media, and telecom space. In addition to academics, I absolutely love to listen to music (always open to recommendations!!), going to concerts, taking walks, and reading poetry.
I am really looking forward to meeting you all and cannot wait to welcome you to Philadelphia. Feel free to email me with any questions regarding the committee!
