Dear Delegates,

Welcome to ILMUNC XLI! My name is Veronica Marlotte and I’m so excited to be chairing the ECOSOC Committee for this upcoming conference. The Economic and Social Council of the United Nations is a key player in achieving sustainable development across the world, all while highlighting global issues through an environmental lens. ECOSOC takes a multifaceted approach to solving topical problems, whether this is through promoting coordination, engaging the youth, or financing development, and I look forward to navigating these important topics with you throughout this debate!

A little bit about myself is that I’m a senior majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Linguistics in the College of Arts and Sciences. I’m from Panama City, Panama, where I participated in MUN during my time in high school. At Penn, I’m the Chair of the Theatre Arts Council and I work as a research assistant at a psycholinguistics lab, along with being involved in the New Student Orientation and Activities Initiative.

This will be my third time participating in ILMUNC and I can’t wait to hear everyone’s ideas and collaboration during the conference! I hope you have a great time at ILMUNC XLI and that you enjoy your time exploring Philadelphia, making new friends along the way. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns!

Sincerely,

Veronica Marlotte

Chair, United Nations Development Programme

Dear Delegates,

I am excited to welcome you to the Specialized/ECOSOC Committee of ILMUNC! My name  is Aurora Yuan, and as the moderator I look forward to guiding you through engaging and  impactful discussions that explore various aspects of economic and social issues globally.

ECOSOC is a committee of the United Nations that governs a large chunk of the human and  financial resources, so it is extremely important. ECOSOC governs international economic and  social issues to form a more sustainable world. Maintaining all of these is a collective effort that  relies on the effective functioning of both international and regional organizations. There are  many pressing and important issues that fall under ECOSOC, and I look forward to hearing  your ideas in committee for any of these subjects!

A little bit about me, I am senior in the College of Arts and Sciences studying neuroscience from  New Jersey. This will be my first conference that I have helped to plan with ILMUNC and hope  that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of ILMUNC, I help to run a  volunteering program, and I am also involved in the theatre community at Penn. I love exploring  Philadelphia, especially the food scene, and am grateful that I got to attend college in this  wonderful city!

Veronica, Aashish, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the Specialized/ECOSOC committee. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions  regarding the committee.

Dear Delegates,

Dear Delegates,

I am excited to welcome you to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of ILMUNC! My name is Aashish, and as the co-chair I am excited to explore various aspects of international politics through vibrant and nuanced debate.

ECOSOC is one of the six primary organs of the United Nations, and oversees and coordinates the operations of the UN’s many specialized agencies, like the World Health Organization, International Monetary Fund—or as in our case, the UNDP. Its role is to be the primary forum for the discussion of international economic, social, cultural, and health issues as well as human rights and humanitarian issues. The UNDP concerns itself with the achievement of sustainable growth and development across nations, allowing for the reduction of poverty and improvement of quality of life among all social classes. Primary matters concerning the UNDP today are climate change and energy issues as well as crisis management and prevention.

A little bit about me, I am a sophomore (about to be a junior, at the time I’m writing this) in the College of Arts and Sciences studying neuroscience, architecture, and biophysics. I’m from New Jersey, and went to the Edison Academy Magnet School where I participated in my high school’s Model UN club. This will be my first conference that I have helped to plan with ILMUNC and hope that you all have an enriching and valuable experience! Outside of ILMUNC, I help out with the music program at West Philly High and I’m the guitarist for the Penn Glee Club Band. I love music and you will always find me listening to something when I’m out and about!

Veronica, Aurora, and I are all looking forward to working with you in the ECOSOC specialized committee. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions regarding the committee.
